'Bunch of me

you know..just a bunch + I'm finally into blogger

If you've run into situations where your system drive is running out of space fast, and yet you need to free as many bytes as possible but can't spare to uninstall any previous programs/softwares, then this simple hack might be a lifesaver. You only need some instant wit and one small (yet nifty, I tell ya) tool released by Microsoft called "Tweak UI". With this tool, you can transfer (or relocate) so called special system folders like "My Documents", "CD burning cache folder", "My Music/Pictures" and many others to another drive on your HDD that has plenty of space to spare. Follow these stpes then:

1) Download Tweak UI v 2.1.0.0 from here or here (direct link)

2) Fire up Tweak UI. Go to My computer> Special Folders (as highlighted in the screenshot above)

3) Select the Special Folder you want to change the location of in the drop down menu

4) Change the location to some other place with plenty of empty spaces. You can see in the screenshot above that I've changed mine to "G:\My Documents" which used to be "D:\.......\My Documents" before (D:\ being my system drive)

5) Reboot (*Important)

Thats it. Now that was short and sweet, wasn't it? You didn't even have to mess with the registry settings either

  1. good tweak I guess. And one of those , which hasn't any side effect ( I guess).

btw , I dont need this since i have 15 gigs in system drive. and I have used max 7-8 gig, not more than that !

  2. Unfortunately, Banik Bhai..not all of us had as good a foresight as yours. Like myself, as I was foolish enough to allot only 8gb to my system drive of which only 1.4 gb is left unfulfilled now :(

  3. Does this work on Windows Server 2003 I wonder? I hope so.

  4. Hmm.. I can't tell about Windows Server 2003, but this hack supposedly works on any Win NT system. So it might as well work on Win Server 2003 too.
