Who doesn't like music these days right? Even if you are much more involved with your family-matters or how an elephant can appear simultaneously at two places, you still gotta listen to music once in a while; heck even those cursed with deafness listen to music these days. So, if you are a newbie in the world wide web, and have heard from friends that "The web is the best shiznit for music dawg" and similar verses, then trust me...they weren't extraggregating a bit. Even though, one might get a bit confused at first when they find that searching in google for "free mp3 download" doesn't always end up with you listening to "Misirlou" by Dick Dale & His Del-Tones but instead a website that might be either too irrelevant or too NSFW. Well, fear no more... here are a review of four...and yeah I mean "FOUR" sites that are guaranteed to deliver you with your daily dose of Frank Sinatra or Black Eyed Peas.
No-4: Scrape Torrent
If you haven't heard what torrent is, then please do. If that sound too geeky or arcane for you, then just remember this...torrent is to music lovers like Fender Stratocaster was to Jimi Hendrix before he died of "pot". You can download almost any soundtrack, albums, musical notes etc etc etc from torrent sites. To aid you and your nOOb self in the search for torrents, there is "Scrape Torrent". Scrape Torrent is basically a demented child of the many torrent tracking sites out there. Those sites track torrents, list them and Scrape Torrent tracks them. I've found scrape torrent to be especially helpful when searching for soundtracks and albums of artists like Bjork, whose song I'd like to hear only once...and that is why I don't wanna buy them. But remember, if you like and album (for example the soundtracks of Pulp Fiction, then buy it). Scrape torrent currently searches four major torrent-tracking sites; TorrentSpy, IsoHunt , PirateBay and MiniNova.
No- 3: G2P
Why would we want to use Google to find MP3s instead of using P2P apps? -P2P/BT is being monitored -- using Google we can download a lot more safely
So says the folks at G2P...an advanced "google search mod" site that refines your search results using special search operators which you either don't know...or don't wan't to know. Its a special project from the i-hacked team. Their
tagline is "Google Hacking to Locate MP3s", and they are damn good at doing so. G2p is the perfect search engine for people who are not versed in complex google algorithm, or have a better life than just sitting in front of the pc ...researching how google indexes sites and how its search results can be modified etc. G2P does all the hard works for you. Its an excellent alternative to torrent downloads, because most of the search results are either http or ftp links, thus they ensure your download goes nice and smooth. Be warned though, sometimes it also bring in search results from sites hosted at the dorm of some university with little or no working link. So don't be disappointed if you come across a dead link.
No-2 : Songfast
I hadn't heard of this site until recently. When I visited the site and tried out their refined mp3 search, I was pretty impressed. This site gives you direct links to your desired mp3 files, a chance to preview the song and also whips up a nice code format to embed the download on your own site. They also have related album cover results on the sidebar and a link to buy those albums from Amazon. That is a nice way to both be benefited and help the original artists benefit. Don't forget their warning though. They also nicely ask the visitors to verify their download first, saying:
MAKE SURE to preview each file prior to downloading to ensure that it is of the desired quality, duration, source, and Artist/Creator.
No -1: Blogmusik
Blogmusik is a web-version of apple's revolutionary ipod. Now if you consider yourself a music lover but don't know what an ipod is, please come live in my country (voted the most corrupted country for the last 5 years by transparency international) and let yourself be tormented. Blogmusik is an excellent product of human imagination and the letter "K" (I know German people can be weird, but K is pretty cool...just think of KDE or KUBUNTU). On first glance, blogmusic looks like your ipod was just pasted onto your browser window. Its a freaking black, stylish, sleek piece of S.Job's mind man!! Then you put your desirable artist/song-title in the searchbox and blogmusik searches the song from its huge repository. A nice sliding sidebar/playlist opens beside the ipod-player...you push the play button..and if your connection speed is better than mine (don't worry...it is...in my country 32 kbps is termed as "broadband") then "VOILA" crystal clear songs start playing. You can also signup for creating and saving custom playlists. The site comes in two languages British English (mate!) and French (que). Its definitely worth being on the 1st position....not because of its interface, but also because it really works.
