'Bunch of me

you know..just a bunch + I'm finally into blogger

OMG, I can't believe this actually works! Normally like any other conscious weboholics I don't give a rat's ass damn about having a "live.com" id before it is made public, but who doesn't like to take chances eh? Anyhow, I just came across a *working (till now, before MS folks request me to take it off the air) hack that allows you to register and use live.com (+ many other domains, which I'll describe shortly) services. Here are the steps:

  1. go to http://get.live.com/getlive/overview, click "sign up".
  2. paste this in the address bar of your browser and then hit 'enter' or press the 'GO' button

javascript: var p = 'live.'; var ds = new Array('com', 'cn', 'fr', 'it', 'nl'); for (var i = 0; i < ds.length; i ++){document.getElementById('idomain').options[i] = new Option(p + ds[i], p + ds[i])} alert('domains added');

3. then select your domain and register. :)

Now you can also hack the javascript snippet mentioned above to add some more domains, don't know if they will work though (for example, I tried to add .bd, but live dudes said .bd was invalid or some crap like that). All you gotta do is add the domain name (eg: .ru, .cz ) after var ds = new Array (marked with red) and inside the brackets along with 'com', 'cn', 'fr', 'it', 'nl' etc like this var ds = new Array('com', 'cn', 'fr', 'it', 'nl', 'ru','cz')

As for me, I'm currently trying out the new Windows Live Mail BETA codenamed Kahuna. Its slow (faster than Yahoo mail BETA though), all ajax and as usually looks vista-ish. All in all its not that bad. Here is an accompanying screencap (oooh, no spam bots.. I'm wise enough to cover my private parts in the screencaps I usually provide..hee hee)

Original hack taken from the awwwesome 9down site

Update (29/11/06): It appears that some hot-shot(!) web-developer back over at Redmond figured this loophole out and now the hack isn't working quite well. Although, I haven't retested the hack myself, but according to an anonymous commenter (seriously, does it hurt to leave your name after the commenting is done?) this hack is giving them an error. I didn't think it would take MSN folks so damn long to figure this out :)

  6. Its not working anymore.
I tried with both IE and firefox but its giving me the following error:
"We are working to fix a temporary problem with our sign-up service.
    Please try again.

    Error code: 32"

  7. Hmm...thanks for the update, o' anonymous well-wisher ;) I guess MSN have fixed the loophole that was being exploited with the javascript. I had hoped something like that might happen, but didn't think it would take so long for the MSN folks to figure this out

  8. yeah guess they figured it out... but thanks to you for the hack and because of that, we all now have our own accounts hosting on MSN but with OUR names!! he he...

i love my live.de account address though Gmail keeps the BOSS title ;)

  9. Yes, Mr. Anonymous, you're correct. They found the hack and apparently they've disabled their whole sign-up process until further notce. If you've tried this hack lately, you know you get the error:

"We are working to fix a temporary problem with our sign-up service.
    Please try again.

    Error code: 32"

However, without using the hack, you still get this message:

"We are working to fix a temporary problem with our sign-up service.
    Please try again.

    Error code: 3"

    Interesting, eh?

  11. well, you can just try to signup using https://accountservices.passport.net/ instead of the windows live standard registration. Once there, you can choose wherever @domain.youwant. And it works flawlessly with WindowsLive Messenger. Didn't check if it still work, but chances are you'll get a @domain.youwant but it will not be a verified email as you do not really have access to that email. Give it a try. Enjoy the Net.
